Restriction of Carriage

CARGO CUSTOMER ADVISORY – RESTRICTION OF CARRIAGE (AIR SHIPMENT)

(Aligned with DGCA / IATA DGR 67th Edition – Effective 1 January 2026)

Dear Customer,

To ensure safe, compliant and timely air cargo movement, please carefully review the following items that are NOT ACCEPTABLE for air cargo and important regulatory considerations before booking shipments:

1. ITEMS PROHIBITED FOR AIR CARGO

The following categories of items are strictly NOT ACCEPTED under DGCA and international air transport (IATA/ICAO) regulations:

A. Explosives and Related Items

  • Fireworks, detonators, blasting caps, TNT, ammunition, cartridges, explosive devices.
  • All Class 1 explosives (except very limited sub‑division 1.4S when permitted) are disallowed by air carriage.

B. Hazardous Substances

The major hazardous materials that cannot be shipped without special processing under dangerous goods rules (and most will be disallowed if not declared and packaged per DGR) include:

  • Flammable materials: fuels, solvents, certain aerosols.
  • Gases: compressed, flammable or toxic gases in cylinders unless handled under specified DG provisions.
  • Toxic substances: poisons and pesticides.
  • Corrosives: acids, alkalis and similar chemicals.
  • Oxidizers/Organic peroxides.
  • Radioactive materials: all Class 7 radioactives not specifically approved.
  • Miscellaneous hazardous items: some magnetized materials, dry ice beyond limits.

(Dangerous Goods are categorized into Classes 1–9 under IATA DGR and must meet strict packaging and documentation requirements if carried.)

C. Batteries & Battery‑Powered Items

  • Lithium batteries: loose, spare or installed batteries without proper DG documentation are not acceptable if they exceed prescribed limits, and manufacturer and packaging compliance is required per IATA DGR packing instructions.
  • Certain hybrid or sodium‑ion battery entries are newly specified in the 67th Edition and require updated handling processes.

D. Valuables & Financial Instruments

Cash, coins, bearer cheques, crossed and uncrossed financial instruments, precious stones, gems, and jewelry due to security and regulatory restrictions.

E. Other Non‑Allowed Items

  • Pornographic materials or contraband prohibited under national law.
  • Stamped/postpaid postal envelopes and parcels (postal mail items not accepted as cargo).
  • Foodstuffs and liquor shipments that are not declared and approved under proper DG/commodity regulations.
  • Items violating Indian Postal Act, 1898 or other applicable laws.

2. RESTRICTED ITEMS (MAY BE ACCEPTABLE ONLY IF SPECIFIED CONDITIONS ARE MET)

Certain items may be accepted only if properly declared, documented, and packaged under IATA DGR 67th Edition:

A. Dangerous Goods with Specific Compliance Requirements

These must follow IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations for:

  • UN classification & packing instructions
  • Proper UN number, proper shipping name, hazard labels, and DG Declaration

Examples include:

  • Flammable liquids (e.g., specific industrial solvents)
  • Gases under pressure (industrial or medical, with conditions)
  • Corrosives (acids/alkalis in compliant packaging)
  • Chemicals designated in specific UN listings and packing instructions

➡ Proper documentation and certified packaging are mandatory.

B. Lithium & Hybrid Batteries/Powered Equipment

  • Batteries installed in equipment may be acceptable per updated packing & testing criteria, including new entries for lithium metal and sodium ion batteries.
  • Spare batteries must meet strict watt‑hour, packaging, and documentation limitations.

C. Oxidizing and Other Hazardous Substances

Some oxidizers, organic peroxides, and reactive chemicals may be carried only when packaged and marked according to detailed DGR instructions.

3. IMPORTANT CUSTOMER GUIDELINES BEFORE BOOKING

  • Correct Classification: Identify whether your items are hazardous and under which DG Class and UN number they fall.
  • Declaration: All dangerous goods must be declared with complete DG documentation (including Shipper’s Declaration, UN number, hazard class, packing group, and emergency contacts).
  • Proper Packaging: Use IATA‑approved packaging materials and methods appropriate for the substance and quantity.
  • Restrictions Awareness: Some items require airline/operator approval or are accepted only on Cargo Aircraft Only (CAO) flights.
  • Consult Before Booking: Contact us if you are unsure whether your item can be shipped. Do not send undeclared hazardous materials.

4. WHY THESE RESTRICTIONS EXIST

The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations set global standards for the safe carriage of hazardous materials by air; the 67th edition (effective January 1, 2026) incorporates amendments to classification, packaging, documentation and safety protocols including specific guidance on batteries, hybrids, aerosols and other emerging cargo categories.

SUMMARY

Do NOT ship under any circumstances:

  • Items violating law

May be shipped ONLY if properly declared and DG compliant:

  • Certain chemicals (with DG packaging)
